California State University, Northridge. Scope of Work- In total, HSI-PATHWAYS will support 90 students from 3 Hispanic Serving Institutions committed to pursuing a career in the professoriate in the humanities, social sciences, and related fields. Upon acceptance, they will commit to making the HSI-PATHWAYS program a priority throughout their junior and senior year and will sign a participatory program contract. Through a part-time coordinator at California State University, Northridge and the other two HSIs, the students will form a cohort, and experience preparation for graduate school and programming related to research and methods throughout their junior and senior year. The Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions, together with California State University, Northridge and the other two HSIs, will ensure that both the existing and new cohorts come together in both formal and informal ways on each of the HSI campuses. These gatherings will add to the socialization process for all of the cohorts. In addition, California State University, Northridge and the two other HSIs will host the Summer Seminar, which is an intensive summer research program that focuses on a rich exploration of humanities-based methodological approaches as well as professional skills, including academic writing, graduate school application essay writing, and GRE preparation.
