The objective of the proposed project is to increase the number of underrepresented human and nutrition science undergraduate students pursuing a career as lactation professionals in rural areas of Ventura County. This collaborative large-scale project?s goal is designed to increase the number of diverse students entering the food and agriculture related sciences. In this project, California State University, Northridge (CSUN), which is a 4-year institution will develop comprehensive and sustained linkages with Ventura Community College and Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in order to build a transfer pipeline for underrepresented, rural, human and nutrition science students to enter the lactation profession. The collaborators plan to do so by developing and implementing a systematic transfer pipeline, which incorporates a comprehensive set of student support services, including, academic advisement, career advisement, tutoring, professional mentorship, leadership skills and experiential learning in the field of human lactation.
