The majority of students at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) are from Los Angeles County, which incarcerates more people than any other county in the state and sends the largest number of people to prison. Furthermore, most of our students are students of color and low income, which are groups disproportionately impacted by incarceration. In Fall 2017 we established the Revolutionary Scholars Project (RSP) for the purpose of supporting formerly incarcerated students (FIS) and systems impacted students (SIS) (students impacted through the incarceration of a loved one), by providing the tools and resources necessary for them to navigate and succeed in higher education. However, limited funding has proven limiting in meeting our goals. The award will enable CSUN to become a host campus for Project Rebound, which is a CSU systemwide initiative to support formerly incarcerated individuals with an extremely successful wrap-around service model.
